Video walls

Video walls
Plasma screens or large LCD monitors can be connected together to display a single image as a video wall. You then have the option of:
- Displaying a huge single image between all the screens on the wall
- Displaying the same image on all the component screens
- Displaying a different image on each screen
The problem with a plasma or widescreen LCD monitor video wall is that
there is an inch or more gap (bezel) between screens. Manufacturers have
screens with almost no bezel, for wall mounting or on a
stand. This gives a better overall video wall effect, but obviously the cost of both options including all bracketry and any
digital signage software, needs to be taken into account.
NEC have ultra slim models X431UN for video walls, whilst
Mitsubishi large format displays can be landscape or portrait and
are designed for 24/7 usage.
Samsung have interlocking display (ID) LCD tower video wall
units with ultra-thin bezels and interlocking rear fixings for quicker
assembly into a video wall. Some of their screens include
MagicInfo Pro networkable digital signage.
UK bracket manufacturers produce wall mounts for video walls. Often these
are less expensive than the screen manufacturers own mounts, although of
course you would have to dismantle parts of your video wall if you wanted
to replace a screen.
The links below give comparisons on plasma, LCD monitors, plasma screen
mounts, video wall mounts, manufacturer specific mounts and digital
signage with our review of software packages.
Video wall applications
Video walls are ideal in public places from hotels advertising their restaurant, bar, suites and health centre facilities, to race courses for displaying on-track betting or flight arrivals and departures in airport terminals. Other applications include highway traffic control centres, power plant control centre, subway and train control centres, building security centres, police and fire stations and information network centres.
Impact is added to your information or message by running one source over the entire video wall display to capture audience attention. Or display meeting agenda on one screen, meeting information on another whilst weather reports and national traffic information are displayed on the other screens.
Applications
Large screen displays can be used for the following applications:
Retail outlets retail stores, shopping malls
Information and advertisements education centres, concerts, events, sports arenas, web conferencing
Observation and security highway traffic control centres, traffic equipment monitoring, power plant control centre, subway and train control centres, building security control centres
Public safety centres police stations, fire station, building IBS station, natural disaster centre
Communications internet data centre, information call centre, network centre, information network centre
Installation
We highly recommend that you use local knowledgeable installation
engineers. Cabling is not included in the video walls and costs extra, usually supplied and costed by installation companies. It may be necessary for additional signal distributor to be purchased (extra cost), depending on manufacturers video wall and site installation.
Please also bear in mind that plasma screens are heavy, and will require
more than one person to move them to the installation
site. It is also advisable that plasma screens are
checked to be in fully working order prior to installation, as we cannot
accept responsibility for damaged screens after 24 hours from delivery;
otherwise manufacturers warranty comes into effect and excludes
damage.
